the radio in the background of that scene is reporting on the damage from the hurricane in landfall and joe mentions getting ready for comdex which happens in the 214s.  i believe that scene happens sometime before simon’s entrance in giant - probably before the episode begins.

Thank you for being my sherlock. But why is this scene important… why was it there?

ook.  i have opinions.  strong strong opinions.  to my mind the scene is there to patch up a hole in season one.  it feels like the writers regret that joe and cameron’s relationship was so volatile in season one and they are trying to show us lovey-dovey joe and cameron as a sort of lazy band-aid.  if the audience doesn’t feel squishy and mooshy about joe and cameron then we won’t route for them.  honestly, i believe it is pandering and emotional manipulation on behalf of the writers.  sorry you asked?

i’m going to go back to my corner now to pout about episode one.  but, by god, i’ll be tuned in on sunday hoping it gets better!

i disagree, i believe the scene was there to set up the ending of the premiere. joe showed no interest in cameron’s game, was too busy to heading off to work to stay with her. he was all work and no play. he wasn’t a jerk about it, but he still didn’t give her that moment. now in his new life, he’s the exact opposite. he spends time at home with his partner, has friends over, etc, but he clearly isn’t happy and instead is being drawn back to cameron through that game. i don’t think it was patching any plot holes, it just shows that joe still really doesn’t know what he wants.
